An appeal to enable the worship of a “Shivling” allegedly discovered inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex in this location was denied on Monday, but the fast-track court postpones its decision
Varanasi: An appeal to enable the worship of the “Shivling” allegedly discovered inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex in this location was denied on Monday, but the fast-track court delayed its decision until November 17.
Civil Judge Mahendra Pandey postponed the decision till November 17, Assistant District Government Counsel, Sulabh Prakash claims.
After hearing arguments from both sides of the controversy on October 27, the court had to pronounce its decision on November 8, but the case was scheduled for Monday since the judge was on leave.
The petition has been filed by three members of Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh including the international general secretary Kiran Singh. They demand banning Muslim community from entering in Gyanvapi Complex and hand over entire place to Hindu community.
The Plea initially filed in the court of Civil Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar. The case was transferred to the fast track court on May 25 by Varansi District Judge A K Vishevesh.

A “Shivling” allegedly turned up during a video-graphic inspection of the mosque. A lower court that was considering a lawsuit filed by five Hindu women who wanted to be allowed to pray at Maa Shringar Gauri Sthal on the outside of the Gyanvapi mosque complex ordered the survey. The wazu khana’s fountain system, according to the mosque management, is what the construction is a part of.
The Supreme Court stated on May 20 that it has transferred the case to the District Judge. The SC observed that looking at the “complexities” and “sensitivity” of the issue, it is better if a senior judicial officer with an experience of more than 25-30 years handles the case.
