Hathras Stampede: UP Govt Sets Up Panel For Investigation

Uttar Pradesh has established a three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission, led by retired Justice Brijesh Kumar Srivastava from the Allahabad High Court, to probe the Hathras stampede on July 2, resulting in at least 121 deaths. Governor Anandiben Patel notified, appointing retired IAS officer Hemant Rao and retired IPS officer Bhavesh Kumar Singh as commission members. The commission will be based in Lucknow.

According to an official bulletin, Assam’s flood situation worsened, with eight more deaths and over 16.25 lakh people affected across 27 districts. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported fatalities in Sonitpur, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Darrang, Golaghat, Biswanath, and Tinsukia, bringing this year’s flood-related death toll to 56.
