Himanta Sarma’s Stipend Plan For Girls Targets Child Marriage

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a scheme to provide monthly stipends to female students from Class 11 to post-graduation to curb child marriages. Named ‘Nijut Moina,’ the scheme, approved by the cabinet, will require Rs 1,500 crore over five years, benefiting around 10 lakh girls. The stipend amounts are Rs 1,000 for Classes 11-12, Rs 1,250 for degree students, and Rs 2,500 for post-graduate students, disbursed on the 11th of each month.
