The scorching heatwave sweeping across most of India has claimed 110 lives since March, although light to moderate showers in Delhi and Kolkata provided much-needed relief on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts monsoon advancement in the next 3–4 days over east central and eastern India. Uttar Pradesh reported the highest heatwave-related deaths (36), followed by Bihar (17) and Rajasthan (16), according to Health Ministry data. Madhya Pradesh registered the most heatstroke cases (10,636), with only five fatalities.
