New Delhi:  India is working with several countries whose citizens had lost their lives in the 2008 Mumbai Terror Attack, said External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, adding that it will make sure that real perpetrators do not escape.

โ€œItโ€™s an occasion where entire country remembers it. I want to underline how strongly we feel about it and determined we are to complete the process of justice,โ€ Jaishankar told Sources on Saturday.

โ€œToday is the anniversary of the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai. Even after so many years, the people who planned and oversaw it have not been punished. They have not been brought to justice. This is something which we give utmost importance to,โ€ the External Affairs Minister added.

In 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists (LeT) carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks killing at least 166 people and leaving 300 wounded in Mumbai.

Last month, India hosted the two-day anti-terrorism meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), under Indiaโ€™s chair of the Counter-Terrorism Committee.

After the meeting, a Delhi Declaration was issued which underlined that terroristsโ€™ opportunity to access safe havens continues to be a significant concern and that all Member States must cooperate fully in the fight against terrorism.

The Declaration also recognized that terrorism in all forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.

During UNSCโ€™s special meeting, Jaishankar highlighted that the global threat of terrorism is growing and expanding, particularly in Asia and Africa, despite the UNSCโ€™s best efforts to combat the โ€œgravest threat to humanity.โ€

Karnataka Govt Replaces Governor With CM As University Chancellor

Shashank
Siddaramaiah

The Karnataka government has replaced the Governor with the Chief Minister as Chancellor of the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Speaking to the media, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil said: โ€œThe cabinet has given consent to the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University Amendment Act. The major change this amendment bill will bring is that until now, his Excellency Governor was to be the Chancellor. However, now, with this amendment, the Chief Minister will be the Chancellor.โ€

Patil further said, โ€œThere are two to three reasons for this decision. The government wants the institute to be more creative in expediting the making of decisions, and universities are directly related to administration, rural welfare, and development. They need to be managed properly on the academic front, and the cabinet has decided to make the Chief Minister as the Chancellor.โ€

โ€œAll the powers vested with the Chancellor will also get transferred to the Chief Minister. The state government, instead of the Governor, has decided to make the Chief Minister the Chancellor for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Universityโ€, he added.

Responding to whether it will also apply to other universities, Patil stated: โ€œThe decision is taken on this university today. When the matter of other universities comes up, I will discuss them. This enactment is different. There are other sets of laws for other universities. The bills need the consent of the Governor. This system exists in many states, including Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh.โ€
