Kashmir welcomed the New Year with a dry spell as the cold wave strengthened, causing the minimum temperature to drop two to three degrees below freezing. Most plain areas saw no snowfall, and the upper valley received less snow than usual by December’s end. Clear skies contributed to further temperature decline, especially in Srinagar.
