Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 544 Constituencies To Go For Polling Instead Of 543, Here Is How?

Lok Sabha Elections 2024

The Election commission of India on Saturday announced the schedule for the much-anticipated Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Starting on April 19,  the polls will be conducted in seven phases.

The counting of votes will take place on June 4. However, when the Election Commission announced the schedule, the constituencies added up to 544 instead of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. This, however, doesn’t mean that a new constituency has been added.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar explained that one of the two constituencies in Manipur, which is under unrest since May 2023 will vote in two phases, which took the overall Lok Sabha seats tally to 544. The elections for two Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held in two phases on April 19 and 26. Inner Manipur and some segments of Outer Manipur will vote in Phase 1 on April 19 and in Phase 2 on April 26, the remaining segments of Outer Manipur will vote again.

Voting on one seat will be held twice due to displacement in the state that remained gripped by recurring bouts of violence since ethnic clashes between the two communities, reported NDTV.

BJP leader caught in porn scandal is now a Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka

TestHostEntry

Bengaluru | BS Yediyurappa will have three deputy Chief Ministers but one of them stands out. Laxman Savadi has been previously known for his controversy.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced that the state will have three deputy chief ministers — Govind Karjol, Ashwath Narayan and Laxman Savadi.

“National and state leaders made me Deputy Chief Minister, they have shown faith in me. I will make the party stronger and bring good name to the government. I did not ask for this post, senior leaders gave it to me, I accepted it,” Mr Savadi told news agency ANI in Bengaluru today.

In 2012, Mr Savadi and two others were caught watching a pornographic movie in an ongoing assembly session.

He later sought to clarify that they were watching it for “educational purposes, to know more about the rave parties”. The assembly was scheduled to discuss a rave party scandal in the same session.

Incidentally, Savadi’s viewing partner CC Patil was a minister for women and child development at the time.

Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao reacted, “This government is full of comedy. Jail-return is CM [BS Yediyurappa] and person who watched porn is deputy CM.”

BJP MLA MP Renukacharya, a close aide of Mr Yediyurappa, has protested Laxman Savadi’s inclusion. “What was the necessity or urgency to induct him (Laxman Savadi) as a minister even though he lost the election?” he asked on Friday.

There has been a wave of criticism on Savandi’s appointment as a Deputy CM too. Savadi is not an MLA or an MLC, but still inducted into the cabinet.

BJP sources said Savadi was rewarded as he was among those who played a key role in getting 17 MLAs from the Congress and JDS to resign from the Assembly.
