Milind Deora Quits Congress, Set To Join Shiv Sena Led By CM Eknath Shinde, Likely To Be Party Nominee For Upcoming Rajya Sabha Election

Former Union Minister of State Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh led the UPA government and was the son of a Veteran leader, Murli Deora; @milinddeora calls it a day,  submits his resignation from the active membership of @INCIndia. He is expected to join today’s CM. @mieknathshinde led #Shivsena

He is tipped to be the #RajyaSabha nominee by CM @mieknathshinde, who led #Shivsena during the upcoming election in April this year. Considering his earlier stint and contacts in national politics, he will be the party’s face in Delhi. Milind will be joined by at least ten former Congress corporators, key office bearers and members of trade associations linked to the party.

Milind, who was strongly arguing that Congress, despite being the major party in the INDIA block, should stake its claim on the South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat currently represented by Shiv Sena UBT MP Arvind Sawant, was feeling wholly sidelined and neglected in the party functioning. The party did not consider his demand to stake a claim on South Mumbai, which triggered him to tender his resignation from the Congress party’s primary membership.

In the last two polls, he was not considered for RS nomination by Congress when senior journalists Kumar Ketkar & Imran Pratapgarhi were nominated. Milind was expecting the party’s candidature but was pacified with another assurance.

Earlier, Milind denied news reports of joining the BJP or NCP led by Ajit Pawar. However, sources said he had opened communication with both but could not work. NCP expressed its inability to nominate him immediately for Rajya Sabha.

From a national to a regional party, Milind will have to take a 360-degree turn to adjust to Hindutva and the thoughts of Balasaheb Thackeray and Anand Dighe sacrificing secular identity. Besides, he will have to focus more on Marathi Manoos in a big way while using his contacts in non-Marashtrian, especially from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, to get them into the party fold.
