Mumbai: “Periods Of Pride” Awareness Project In Dharavi

Awareness on Menstrual Hygiene Management Under Project Named as “Periods of Pride’ By Green Pencil Foundation conducted On 11th January by the Green Pencil Foundation in Dharavi , Mumbai
On 11th January, Wednesday an Awareness cum workshop conducted by the Green Pencil Foundation in Dharavi , Mumbai.
“Good health & good sense are two of life’s greatest blessings !”
Green Pencil Foundation organized an awareness session on Menstrual Health & Hygiene under project named as “Periods of Pride” at Gause Azam Garib Foundation, Dharavi by sensitizingĀ  the topic related to young girls like how to deal with periods happily.
The initiative was taken by the lead member Rakshita Manglani, Green Pencil Foundation Mumbai and it was constantly supported by Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder of Green Pencil Foundation and a few more names like Ms. Ruksana Abbas Khan & Ms. Sabreen Idrisi who helped us gather together to spread massive awareness among the young girls at Gause Azam Garib Mohalla Foundation about reproductive health at Dharavi. It’s an open secret where everybody knows about it but nobody wants to speak about it. But it’s very challenging aspect to bring the change we want to see around us.
It’s very important to look after one’s reproductive health where we can lead the young girls in a proper direction so it should be very positive & encouraging to them rather than hiding or avoiding the discussion of topic publicly. It is indeed important for a girl child to know the physiology of her menstrual cycle which will not only clear her doubts but will boost her confidence to tackle with the pain during periods along with what main nutrients are required for her body during periods. Being healthy is only possible when one maintains proper hygiene so the young girl students were properly guided with some menstrual hygiene tips & proper disposal of sanitary napkins.
There were so many myths/misconceptions related to periods that were being answered by the expert scientifically. Also the session included good touch/safe touch & bad touch/unsafe touch to the young children by stressing on the need of safety of a girl child.
It was truly an amazing session where each girl child was endowed with great knowledge & crystal clear mind having no doubts so here we took an encouraging step towards – “We would like to be a positive force for young girls.”
