Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman disclosed her refusal to contest Lok Sabha polls due to insufficient funds and the decline of BJP’s offer. BJP President JP Nadda proposed her candidacy from Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu. Sitharaman cited financial constraints and concerns over winnability criteria like community and religion.
She emphasized that her personal finances are separate from the Consolidated Fund of India. Several Rajya Sabha members, including Piyush Goyal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, were nominated for Lok Sabha elections. Sitharaman pledged to support other candidates through campaigning, such as Rajiv Chandrasekhar.
