All the victims have been retrieved and no one is missing in Morbi bridge collapse tragedy in Gujarat district, the official sources said on Thursday.

Morbi:  All the victims have been retrieved and no one is missing in Morbi bridge collapse tragedy in Gujarat district, the official sources said on Thursday.

At least 135 people were killed and over 100 injured after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town collapsed on Sunday, plunging people into the Machchhu river. Earlier on Wednesday, the Morbi district administration received the information that one person was missing in the tragedy but that information has been found to be untrue in the police verification, they added.

The commandant of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Prasanna Kumar, citing information from district administration, had also said on Wednesday that one or two people were missing and the rescue operation was still underway.

As many as four of the nine accused in the tragedy have been arrested and remanded to police custody. Five are still at large. Gujarat Police had filed a First Information Report under IPC sections 304 and 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against the nine people of Oreva group, prima facie responsible for the bridge collapse tragedy.

Of the four persons in police custody, two are managers of the Oreva company, which threw the bridge open for visitors after seven months of maintenance works, and the other two are fabrication work contractorโ€™s people.

Speaking on the ongoing investigation, Rahul Tripathi, SP, Morbi, said, โ€œWe are questioning all the 4 accused in our custody and we are trying to establish the liability of the different kinds of lapses in the bridge renovation. We are doing a thorough investigation and if anyoneโ€™s role comes forward, he or she will be booked and arrested.โ€

He added further, โ€œYes, we have given a scientific report to the court but details of the same canโ€™t be shared with you at this stage as this will hamper our investigation.โ€ Statewide mourning was observed in Gujarat on Wednesday with the national flag flown at half-mast on the government buildings in the state.

โ€œThere Is Fear Regime Under Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayanโ€, Says Governor Arif Mohammad Khan

Hitting out at Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the state Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Thursday said that there is a fear regime under him.

New Delhi:  Hitting out at Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the state Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Thursday said that there is a fear regime under him.

โ€œA secretary of India wanted to come and meet me and then he suddenly came to know that the Chief Minister is also staying here. He called my staff and said I wonโ€™t come today, otherwise, they will report to him,โ€ Khan claimed. Khan said, โ€œThe people go to the public meeting wearing black shirts and they are arrested. Is this not a fear regime?โ€

Khan also said that he had not made any allegation about state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the connection with the gold smuggling case.

โ€œThere are issues in which I must interfere. I did not make any allegation (on Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan),โ€ Khan said while talking to Sources.

Accusing the CM, Khan said, โ€œCMโ€™s Secretary who was sacked, was patronising those involved in the case without CMโ€™s knowledge? If yes, then, itโ€™s a reflection of CMโ€™s capability.โ€ Governor further accused the Kerala CM of not responding to his calls.

โ€œFor one month, I returned every file relating to the University. There is a โ€˜Laxman Rekhaโ€™ for everybody. CM not responding to the call of the Governor is crossing โ€˜Laxman Rekhaโ€™.โ€ Khan said.

Kerala Gold smuggling case prime accused Swapna Suresh alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is making projects in the state for his daughter Veena Vijayan and for the future generations of his family in the guise of development.

She mocked the state governmentsโ€™ projects like KFON and K-Rail as VFON and V-Rail. She said to Sources that, โ€œChief Ministerโ€™s projects making undue commissions and for building an empire for his daughter or for his family or for the future generations of his family in the disguise of development.

It should not be Keralaโ€™s FON, Kerala Fibre Optical Network, it should be Veena or Vijayan Fibre Optical Network.โ€ Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate on October 29 told the Supreme Court that when the investigation progressed in the gold smuggling case and the role of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayanโ€™s own the then Principal Secretary was detected, the state machinery turned against the probe agency and registered false cases by influencing the accused and making efforts to derail the investigation and trial.

โ€œEven though a letter was sent by the CM of Kerala to the PM when the investigation progressed and the role of his own then Principal Secretary was detected, the state machinery turned against ED and registered false cases by influencing the accused and making efforts to derail the investigation and trial,โ€ ED said in a rejoinder affidavit filed in the gold smuggling case.

Notably, accusing Governor Arif Mohammed Khan of attempting to run a parallel government, Vijayan on Wednesday said that repeated interventions in the Stateโ€™s universities should be seen as part of a plan to bring them under the control of the Sangh Parivar and saffronise higher education.
He also accused Khan of trying to run a parallel government in the state.
