As a goodwill gesture, the Aarey activists also tied Rakhis to members of the Mumbai police who were deployed to maintain law and order during the protest.
Mumbai: People gathered at Mumbai’s Aarey on Sunday, marking the 7th week of the save Aarey protests against the metro car 3 shed. However, the participation of the members was way less than the weeks earlier.
A day before India’s 76th Independence Day, Save Aarey activists had held Tri color in their hands and were displaying their protest.
Sending a message, members of the Adivasi community tied Rakhis to trees.
As a goodwill gesture, the Aarey activists also tied Rakhis to members of the Mumbai police who were deployed to maintain law and order during the protest.
Speaking to HW News one of the Aarey activists said, the participation had lowered due to the long weekend.

When asked about reports of Kanjurmag land being used for metro 6, Amrita Bhatachariya, one of the petitioners of the Save Aarey movement said, “That is the craziest thing that we get to see, our different planning agencies are coming with projects and they don’t speak to each other,” she said.
“Now MMRDA(Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) and MMRCL (Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd) are sister concerns”.
Bhattacharya further said, “MMRCL is a special purpose vehicle created for metro line 3, MMRDA is building metro line 6”.
“We fail to understand when MMRCL also has 50% stake of state, why MMRDA and MMRCL can not speak together, merge this metro line 3 with metro line 6 and take it to Kanjurmag.”
The Save Aarey petitioner further said, ” MMRDA has land in BKC, It’s a 30-acre huge land. BKC mangrove was destroyed to build the BKC area, where so many buildings are already there, and car deport can easily be built there because the state has the land.”
“If the goverment wants to look for a solution, there are an empty number of options and solutions, looks like the goverment does not want to look for a solution.”
Amrita also agreed that the numbers in the protest this week was lower than the previous week, however, she was optimistic about the participation next week.
