Asaduddin Owaisi has said the BJP will have a clear edge over the Opposition forces in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections if a particular face is pitted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi

New Delhi: All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has said the BJP will have a clear edge over the Opposition forces in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections if a particular face is pitted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the latest episode of โ€˜Podcast with Smita Prakashโ€™, the AIMIM chief said the Opposition needs to galvanise in each Lok Sabha constituency to defeat the BJP. Owaisi said, โ€œThe Opposition should look to put up a tough fight for all the 540 parliamentary constituencies. If a single opposition face fights against BJP, the latter will benefit. If itโ€™s Modi versus (Arvind) Kejriwal or Rahul Gandhi, the PM would be at an advantage.โ€
In 2019, the Opposition had formed a grand alliance in a bid to unseat the Modi government. However, the alliance did not succeed in its objective and eventually fell apart.
With the focus now on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the AAP recently claimed the battle for 2024 will be one between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The AAP claimed that the BJP and PM Modi are shaken by Kejriwalโ€™s growing popularity, his model of governance in the national capital and the AAP expanding electoral footprint in the country.
A known baiter of the BJP at the Centre, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, too, remodelled his party, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi into the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and got recognised as a national party in a bid to upstage the saffron party in the LS polls.

On whether Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should be pitted against PM Modi, the AIMIM chief said, โ€œMamata Banerjee (recently) held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. So one is not certain if she should be the Opposition face against PM Modi.โ€
The West Bengal CM had earlier called on the chief ministers of all Opposition-ruled states to come together and put up a united fight against the BJP in 2024.
โ€œCM Banerjee passes a resolution in the Parliament against BJP, but then praises PM Modi,โ€ said the AIMIM chief.

Delhi

20-year-old Anjali was killed in the early hours of January 1 after her scooty was hit by a car that dragged her for over 12 kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in Delhi.

New Delhi: A theft was reported on Monday from the house of Anjali Singh, the woman who died a horrific death on New Yearโ€™s Day after she was dragged for several kilometres under a car that hit her scooty.

Family members of Anjali claimed that thieves broke open the lock of their house at Karan Vihar and among the items that were stolen include an LCD TV.

They also alleged that Anjaliโ€™s friend Nidhi was behind the theft. Speaking to ANI, Anjaliโ€™s sister said on Monday morning, โ€œOur neighbours first informed us about the theft around 7.30 am in the morning. When we came here, we found the lock to be broken. Another family member questioned the role of Delhi Police. โ€œWhy was there no police yesterday in front of the house? Police had been there for the last 8 days but was yesterday no one was there. We feel, Nidhi is behind the theft.โ€

Police said the investigation is underway.Previously Anjaliโ€™s maternal uncle claimed, that her friend Nidhi, the eyewitness in the case had, hatched a conspiracy by claiming Ajali had been drunk on the day of the accident. His response came against the backdrop of claims by Nidhi to the media that Anjali was drunk on the day of the incident.

โ€œNidhi was hidden previously. Now she has surfaced after Anjaliโ€™s last rites. When the incident happened, did not she have the humanity to report it to the police or family? She was scared then. Is not she scared now? This is Nidhiโ€™s conspiracy,โ€ Anjaliโ€™s maternal uncle told ANI

He said Anjali did not have a drinking habit and her friend was lying. โ€œMy niece did not have a drinking habit. If she was drunk that night (when the incident happened) as per Nidhiโ€™s claim then the postmortem report would have mentioned that. It means Nidhi is lying,โ€ he said.

20-year-old Anjali was killed in the early hours of January 1 after her scooty was hit by a car that dragged her for over 12 kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in Delhi.

An examination of the CCTV footage has helped the Delhi Police in tracing and recording the statement of Nidhi who was riding a pillion with the deceased at the time of the accident.
