Pahalgam Attack: Rajnath Singh Briefs PM Modi On Security Situation

Post meeting the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the Minister of Defence, Rajnath Singh briefs PM Modi on security readiness

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He went to provide an update on security readiness after the Pahalgam attack. This comes just a day after he met Chief of Defense, Anil Chauhan.

On April 27, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi. This was to address critical military strategies concerning the Pahalgam incident.

Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed his commitment to impose the harshest penalties on terrorists and their supporters, assuring the families of the victims that justice will prevail.

During the 121st episode of his radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’, he highlighted the remarkable growth in Jammu and Kashmir. In recent years, particularly in tourism and youth opportunities, Jammu and Kashmir has grown a lot. He stated that the Pahalgam attack was a desperate effort by adversaries to hinder the region’s development.

The attack on April 22 resulted in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, primarily tourists. This marked it as the deadliest incident in the Valley since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.

“During the night of April 27-28, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts,” said the Indian Army in a statement, also adding that they had responded “swiftly and effectively”.

In the meantime, on Monday, China called upon India and Pakistan to demonstrate restraint. This is following reports from New Delhi’s military indicating that troops from both nations engaged in gunfire. This happened in the contested region of Kashmir for the fourth consecutive night.

“China hopes that the two sides will exercise restraint, meet each other halfway,” properly handle relevant differences through dialogue and consultation and jointly maintain regional peace and stability,” said China’s foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun
