NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday attacked the MahaYuti government alleging that the law and order situation in Maharashtra has deteriorated as the government was not serious about it. He referred to Nagpur, which is state’s second capital and the home town of the deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying that the law and order situation there has been a matter of deep concern.
Pawar, who is locked in legal battle with his nephew Ajit Pawar over the party’s name and symbol, also lashed out at the MahaYuti government for its decision over recruitment on contract basis in police, education and several other departments demanding that the recruitment be done for permanent jobs and not temporary for 11 months in a transparent manner. He referred to the state government’s move to recruit about 11,203 on contract basis in four departments. He claimed while many posts were vacant the government was in an hurry to recruit on contract basis in the police department.
‘’There is strong opposition from students against the recruitment on contract basis. There will be no reservation in such recruitments so it will be unfair to various constituents and groups. The police recruitment is for 11 months. So what will these children do after eleven months?’’asked Pawar. He also took a strong objection against the state government’s decision asking private companies to adopt some schools in the state. ‘’What will be the fate of the students there?’’he asked.
Pawar also criticised the state government for the recruitment of teachers on the contract basis and claimed that it will affect the quality of education. He reminded that this decision has been opposed by the teachers unions.
He pointed out that recruitment on contract basis on such a massive scale was never done in Maharashtra. ‘’If the Home Guard and Civil Defence will be made stronger the government will not need to hire on contract basis in the police department,‘’he noted.
Pawar slammed the state government saying that nearly 19,553 girls and women have gone missing during January-May 2023. He demanded that the state government should swing into action and take strong measures to curb such incidents.
Pawar also targeted the state government over the present status of government hospitals especially in the wake of spate of deaths, especially of newborns recently reported in Nanded, Thane, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. ‘’This government woke up after deaths in these hospitals and decided to immediately recruit 2,800 on temporary basis in various government hospitals. Health care is very important for most of the citizens of the state. Therefore, there is a need to recruit in the health department on a permanent basis and not on a temporary basis,’’he opined.
In his comment after the Suprement Court rapped the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar for disqualification decision delay, Pawar claimed that he was of the view that there has been delay by the Speaker in this regard. He opined that the Speaker should adjudicate the cases earlier.
