U.S. spokesperson Ned Price condemns offensive comments made by suspended officials on The Prophet.
Washington: “We condemn the offensive comments made by two BJP officials and we were glad to see that the party publicly condemns those comments,” spokesman Ned Price told news agencies on Prophet Row this Thursday.
The U.S. delegate commented on the statements now suspended BJP journalist Nupur Sharma and Delhi BJP unit media head Naveen Jindal. So far, the statements that have notoriously spread wildfires across the country have not been publicly recalled by the duo.
“We regularly engage with the Indian government at senior levels on human rights concerns, including freedom of religion or belief, and we encourage India to promote respect for human rights,” he added.
Earlier this month, both Sharma and Jindal have been constantly flamed by Islamic states and leaders in India alike for their insensitive comments on Prophet Muhammad.
The incident has sparked violent riots across the nation and met with similar demonstrations outside India.
Remarks from Islamic states have condemned the statements. In Bangladesh, protestors demand an apology from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a close-knit confederate of India.
The BJP on June 5th suspended Sharma Jindal after serious outrage from several Islamic nations. The Centre commented that the problematic statements were made by “fringe elements” and did not reflect the views of the Indian government.
Since the early 90s, the U.S. has maintained close relations with India to minimize the foreseeing agency of China’s rising economic superpower.
The U.S. has always remained critical of the ruling party’s selective minority policing and expressed solid dissatisfaction with the state of human rights agencies and humanitarian organizations.
