Rahul Gandhi, currently in Assam for his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ claimed he was denied entry to Batadrava Than, the birthplace of saint Srimanta Sankardeva. Authorities stated permission was granted to a local MP and an MLA. In a video, Gandhi is questioning the security official about the denial. Scheduled to visit Bordowa Satra in Nagaon, he later staged a sit-in with Congress workers.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh mentioned attempts to secure access since January 11 and noted two MLAs had met the Management for approval. Initially told they would be welcomed at 7 am on January 22, they were later informed they couldn’t enter until 3 pm, citing pressure from the state government. Ramesh expressed difficulty reaching the site after 3 pm due to additional distances.
On Sunday, Batadrava Than’s management committee stated that Rahul Gandhi’s visit would occur after 3 pm due to the consecration of the Ram Temple and other events drawing devotees. Political tensions rose as Congress alleged attacks by BJP supporters during the yatra, with Rahul Gandhi heckled and asserting his party’s fearlessness.
