โ€œSemiconductors Are Essential, India Canโ€™t Be Dependent On Global Supply Chains For Itโ€: Gautam Adani

Gautam Adani also sought more collaboration between India and the US on healthcare, defence and cyber technologies.

New Delhi: Semiconductors have become very important for almost all sectors of the economy and India cannot remain dependent on the global supply chains for it, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said on Wednesday.

โ€œThe semiconductor industry is a classic example with more engineers deployed in India than anywhere in the world and yet India, no semiconductor plant. India cannot remain dependent on global supply chains that are based on semiconductor nationalism. And will need US support with a technology transfer,โ€ Adani said after receiving USIBC Global Leadership Award 2022. He stressed that semiconductors are essential to almost all sectors of the economy and ongoing war has only accelerated this recognition.

โ€œWe live in a world where semiconductors are essential to almost all sectors of the economy. The ongoing war has only accelerated these recognitions. The paradox of capitalism is that India continues to be the best global pool for millions of engineers, especially for US companies. But the primary value addition to the businesses happens outside India,โ€ Adani said.

Adani also sought more collaboration between India and the US on healthcare, defence and cyber technologies.

Regarding climate change, Adani said, โ€œIn terms of climate change, there has been a lot of talk about developed nations supporting the developing nations. But far more needs to be done urgently. With the signing of the US Climate Bill into law, both nations must find a mechanism to benefit from this.โ€
He noted that the Governments have done their part and it is now the job of businesses to find a way to collaborate.

โ€œAdani Group has already committed $70 billion to these efforts. It will see us building 3 Giga factories in India, leading to one of the worldโ€™s most integrated wind energy value chains,โ€ he said.

While receiving the USIBC award, Adani said, โ€œawards come on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Indiaโ€™s freedom makes it more significant and memorable.โ€

โ€œBJP Leader Spewing Venomโ€: Bhupesh Baghel Slams Assam CM On โ€œPakโ€ Remark

ANI
Bhupesh Bagel

Speaking to reporters here, Baghel said, โ€œHe is spewing venom. He must have visited the RSS office and seen โ€˜Akhand Bharatโ€™s map.

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday lambasted his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma for his remarks on Congressโ€™ Bharat Jodo Yatra and said the BJP leader has been โ€œspewing venomโ€ after visiting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office.

Speaking to reporters here, Baghel said, โ€œHe is spewing venom. He must have visited the RSS office and seen โ€˜Akhand Bharatโ€™s map. BJP says Muslims to be sent to Pakistan as well as the country to be merged for โ€˜Akhand Bharatโ€™. What does it mean to send them and merge later?โ€ This comes after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a jibe at Congressโ€™ Bharat Jodo Yatra which was kickstarted on Wednesday and said that the party should conduct this campaign in Pakistan if โ€œthey want to start the campaign,โ€ while stressing that โ€œIndia is connected and united.โ€

Sarma said that India was divided in 1947 and there is no benefit to start the Bharat Jodo Yatra in India.

โ€œIndia was divided in 1947 during Congress. If they want to start Bharat Jodo Yatra, then Rahul Gandhi should do this in Pakistan. What are the benefits of doing this Yatra in India? India is connected, and united. I want to suggest Rahul Gandhi to take the Bharat Jodo Yatra programme to Pakistan,โ€ the Assam CM told ANI on Tuesday.

Further on Bharat Jodo Yatra, Baghel said, โ€œThere will be a discussion on inflation, unemployment, issues related to peopleโ€™s suffering. Efforts will be made to stop the spread of hatred.โ€

In what is being seen as a Congressโ€™ โ€œmasterstrokeโ€ to take on the Narendra Modi government in the upcoming 2024 elections, Congress is launching the โ€˜Bharat Jodo Yatraโ€™ on Wednesday in which Rahul Gandhi will start the 3,570 km journey lasting about 150 days from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.

As the party begins the nationwide yatra, some pertinent questions arise about the lodging and flooding of Rahul Gandhi. However, the party has made it clear that he will not stay in any hotel but rather will complete the entire journey in a simple manner.

Rahul Gandhi is going to stay in the container for the next 150 days. Sleeping beds, toilets and air-conditioners are also installed in some of the containers. During the journey, the temperature and environment will differ in many areas. The arrangements have been made keeping in view the intense heat and humidity with the change of places.

โ€œAbout 60 such containers have been prepared and sent to Kanyakumari where a village has been set up in which all these containers have been placed. The container will be parked in a new place every day in the shape of a village for night rest. Full-time Yatris who stay with Rahul Gandhi will eat together and stay close,โ€ said the sources. The sources further said that Rahul Gandhi considers the Bharat Jodo Yatra journey as a way to connect with the common people.

โ€œSo he wants to complete this entire journey in a simple way away from the glitz and glamour. Rahul Gandhi calls it a journey but political analysts consider it a preparation for 2024,โ€ the sources added.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi attended a prayer meeting at the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial in Sriperumbudur on Wednesday. Sriperumbudur is where his father Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in a bomb blast on May 21, 1991, while campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls. Rahul Gandhi paid floral tribute at his fatherโ€™s memorial.
โ€œI lost my father to the politics of hate and division. I will not lose my beloved country to it too. Love will conquer hate. Hope will defeat fear. Together, we will overcome,โ€ he tweeted.

Local Congress leaders including Karnataka state party chief DK Shivakumar were present at the prayer meeting.

After the prayer meet, Rahul Gandhi left for Kanyakumari where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will present him the Tricolour. The Congress leader will address a rally while officially kickstarting the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress partyโ€™s general secretary, on Tuesday asserted that through the โ€˜Bharat Jodo Yatraโ€™ people will be united on issues like inflation, and unemployment among other matters of public importance.

โ€œWe are starting a positive politics. We want to hear from you, we want to solve your problems. We want to unite our beloved country. Let us unite India together,โ€ Priyanka said in a Facebook video.
Politics today has turned a blind eye towards people and their issues, she added.

โ€œPolitical discussion today isnโ€™t focusing on the people of the country, it has taken a different turn altogether. Politics today has turned a blind eye towards people and their issues. Through this โ€˜yatraโ€™ we want to bring out the problems and concerns of the common man,โ€ Priyanka said.

The senior Congress party leader urged people to join the โ€˜yatra,โ€™ adding that people should unite to make the country prosperous.

The yatra will proceed mainly through 12 states, including Himachal Pradesh, where Assembly polls are due later this year.
