Sukanta Majumdar Slams Mamata Banerjee For Refusal Over Implementing CAA

Sukanta Majumdar

Kolkata: BJP president in West Bengal Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday slams that Mamata Banerjeeโ€™s refusal to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) means that she does not want refugees to become a part of India.

โ€œCAA has already been passed in both houses of the Parliament. Now it is upto the Central government if it will be implemented throughout the country. If you (chief minister Mamata Banerjee) is opposing it, it means that you are challenging the sovereignty of the country,โ€ BJP West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar said in an exclusive conversation with ANI. โ€œCAA will be implemented in Bengal as well. If she does not want it, it would mean that she doesnโ€™t want refugee to become citizens (Indians),โ€ he added.

Majumdarโ€™s remarks came of CM Banerjeeโ€™s statement on November 2 in which she termed the implication of Uniform Civil Code as a setup for Gujarat polls.

โ€œWe are totally against this (UCC) and we oppose CAA; they are playing this game because of the Gujarat elections,โ€ chief minister Mamata Banerjee said while she was asked about her stand on UCC.

The decision to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has been made in the Gujarat Cabinet on October 29 for which a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of retired Supreme Court/High court judge.
Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has taken a historic decision in the cabinet meeting today โ€“ of forming a committee for implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the state, stated Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi in a press conference on Saturday.

Sanghavi said, there is one criminal code for the citizens across the country but there is a difference in the civil code, which is based on religion and to change the same, it has been decided to implement a uniform civil code in the state.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also took to Twitter and informed that an important decision has been taken today in a state cabinet meeting to form a high-level committee under the chairmanship of a retired Supreme Court/HC judge to examine the need for a Uniform Civil Code in the state and prepare a draft for this code.

Maharashtra: After 5 Weeks Without No Cabinet, Expansion Likely This Week

Shashank

The former CM has said, โ€œThe BJP has embarked on a mission to improve its footprint in Maharashtra in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by identifying 16 parliamentary constituencies where opposition parties have had a consistent winning streak.โ€

Mumbai: After a wait of over more than a month, the Maharashtra cabinet expansion is likely to happen this week, according to sources.

โ€œThe expansion of the Maharashtra cabinet will take place before you can even imagineโ€, Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, told the media in Delhi, responding to questions on the induction of new ministers.

According to sources, Mr. Fadnavis is likely to get the Home portfolio, which he held during his first term as CM, from 2015-2020.

The Maharashtra CM, Eknath Shinde, along with his deputy, was in Delhi over the weekend as Mr. Shinde along with 22 other chief ministers attended a NITI Aayog meeting.

Mr. Fadnavis announced that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been given the responsibility to coordinate efforts to better the BJPโ€™s performance in Baramati, the Pawar family stronghold in western Maharashtra, from where NCP leader and Sharad Pawarโ€™s daughter Supriya Sule is an MP.

The former Maharashta CM has said, โ€œThe BJP has embarked on a mission to improve its footprint in Maharashtra in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by identifying 16 parliamentary constituencies where opposition parties have had a consistent winning streak.โ€

Mr. Fadnavis further said these constituencies included those held by Shiv Sena leaders who have now joined Team Shinde.

โ€œSince Shiv Sena and BJP will contest the Lok Sabha elections as a coalition, the BJP will work to ensure the victory of the sitting Lok Sabha members from these constituencies,โ€ Mr. Fadnavis added.
