โ€œThey should have started it from Dhaka and Lahoreโ€: UP BJP chief on Rahul Gandhiโ€™s Bharat Jodo Yatra

Bharat Jodo Yatra

New Delhi: UP BJP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary took a swipe at Rahul Gandhiโ€™s Bharat Jodo Yatra and said that the Congress should have started it from Bangladesh or Pakistan.
โ€œThe Congress should have organised the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Dhaka (Bangladesh), Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi (Pakistan) which was separated from India during their rule, but it seems as if Congress itself is confused,โ€ Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary said in a conversation with ANI. โ€œI donโ€™t understand which India are they trying to reconnect when the partition during their governance separated Bangladesh as a part of West Pakistan from us,โ€ he added.
Further, taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, the UP BJP chief said that if they really want to unify the country, they should have started the yatra from Dhaka in Bangladesh or from Lahore, Karachi, or Islamabad in Pakistan.
Later in the conversation, Chaudhary said that Congress has only destroyed the image of the โ€œunited Indiaโ€.
Notably, Rahul Gandhiโ€™s Bharat Jodo Yatra has arrived in the national capital today. The former Congress president had said: โ€œBJP spreads hatred. We embrace all Indians. There is no hatred in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. If someone falls here, everyone lifts him up. Everyone helps everyone, this is the true India.
Chaudhary also reacted to Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheraโ€™s remark and said that it is up to them whom they want to make the Prime Ministerial face but the ultimate decision will be taken by the country.

โ€œIt is only Congress who would decide the Prime Ministerial face of its party for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections but ultimately, the decision will be taken by the people,โ€ the UP BJP president said adding that they will present the report card of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the next election and will highlight another difference by the party.
On being asked whether Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister in 2024, Khera told ANI that it will be decided in the 2024 polls. โ€œOnly 2024 will decide it but if you ask us, then, definitely Rahul Gandhi should become PM,โ€ Pawan Khera had said earlier in the day while the padayatra was coming from Faridabad to Delhi.

CBI Gets 3-day Remand Of Former ICICI CEO Chanda Kochhar, Husband In Videocon Money Laundering Case

ANI

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday got a three-day remand of former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ICICI bank Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar.
The CBI arrested the couple on Friday in connection with the alleged ICICI Bank-Videocon money laundering case. The CBI lawyer in the court said that they have arrested accused number four and five, as per the First Investigation Report registered with them.
โ€œAccused 4 was MD and CEO of ICICI in 2009 and the fifth one is her husband,โ€ the lawyer said.
He said that after Chanda Kochhar became the MD and CEO of the bank, six loans were sanctioned to Videocon and its subsidiary companies and Chanda was a part of the committees that sanctioned two of the loans.
โ€œThe loan amount of Rs 1,800 crore has been given to the company,โ€ the CBI lawyer added mentioning that another loan of amount Rs 300 crore was given to a company whose part was Deepak Kochhar.
โ€œWe are filing an application to invoke IPC section 409 also in this case. We had already given a notice to both the accused under section 41 of the CrPC, but since they did not cooperate so we arrested them,โ€ he said underscoring that they had sent a notice to the couple to appear before it on December 15 but they said they would appear four days later and did not come on December 19 as well.
โ€œThey came yesterday (December 23) and due to non-cooperation, they were arrested. To confront them with the spam evidence and documents of the case we should be given three daysโ€™ custody of both the accused,โ€ the CBI lawyer argued.

Meanwhile, the advocate of the Kochhars, Amit Desai argued, emphasising that the registered FIR also included industrialist Venugopal Dhoot of the Videocon Group.
He said: โ€œYears after the FIR was registered against them, none of the Kochhars were called for joining the investigation and then they suddenly sent notice for December 15 which was changed to yesterday only with the approval of the CBI.โ€
โ€œIf there was no need for investigation till January 2019, why have they been arrested now?โ€ he asked.
The case is related to the alleged irregularities and corrupt practices in the sanction of a Rs 1,875 crore loan disbursed by ICICI Bank to the Videocon Group during 2009 and 2011.
During its preliminary enquiry, the CBI found six loans worth Rs 1,875 crore were sanctioned to the Videocon Group and companies associated with it between June 2009 and October 2011 in an alleged violation of laid-down policies of ICICI Bank, which are part of the probe.
The agency has said that the loans were declared non-performing assets in 2012, causing a loss of Rs 1,730 crore to the bank.
