TMC Appoints Abhishek Banerjee For Anti-Terror Delegations

TMC Appoints Abhishek Banerjee

This is just a day after Yusuf Pathan, the partyโ€™s Baharampur MP decided to opt out of the delegation

The Trinamool Congress has nominated their party general Abhishek Banerjee for a parliamentary all-party delegation for Operation Sindoor Global Outreach. This is just a day after Yusuf Pathan, the partyโ€™s Baharampur MP decided to opt out of the delegation.

The party announced the decision taken and posted on X. It said, โ€œWe are delighted to share that our Chairperson Mamata Banerjee has nominated Natโ€™l GS Abhishek Banerjee to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for Indiaโ€™s global outreach against terrorism.โ€

The statement also said, โ€œAt a time when the world must unite to confront the growing threat of terrorism, Abhishek Banerjeeโ€™s inclusion brings both conviction and clarity to the table. His presence will not only reflect Bengalโ€™s firm stand against terror but also strengthen Indiaโ€™s collective voice on the global stage.โ€

The Central government has selected 51 parliamentarians, political leaders and former ministers across various political lines. All of these have been chosen by the centre as part of seven delegations that will be sent out to travel to world capitals. India is trying to spread the news about its fight against terrorism in every way.

TMC Leaders Speak Out

The TMC was, however, disappointed that they were not told by the Centre before leaders for the delegation were picked.

Reports said that Kiren Rijiju had called the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee. This was for the appointment of someone for the delegations being sent.

โ€œThey (Centre) cannot decide the name. If they request the mother party, the party will decide the name. This is the custom; this is the system. We are with the Central government regarding external affairs policy, and we are fully supporting them,โ€ said Mamata Banerjee.

After being selected for the delegations, Abhishek Banerjee also spoke. He said, โ€œWe stand with the Central Government on all decisions related to the national interest, combating terrorism, and safeguarding the country.โ€

He added, โ€œHowever, the Central Government cannot decide who will represent the Trinamool Congress in the delegation. It is our partyโ€™s prerogative to choose our representatives. If you want one member, we can provide fiveโ€”but the Central Government must demonstrate good intent.โ€

Earlier Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh had warned that Pakistan will try to rebuild the terror infrastructures.
