Eknath Shinde’s rebellion last month had led to the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray government triggering a split within the Shiv Sena.
Mumbai: For more than a month after Uddhav Thackeray’s government was overthrown in Maharashtra, there are still ongoing claims and counterclaims about the change of position, deliberations and discussions that took place weeks ago as the state awaits a new cabinet, now an MLA of the Team Eknath Shinde said Uddhav Thackeray was ready to reconsider ties with the BJP.
“When I left for Assam (Guwahati after the uprising of 21 June), I contacted one of the people involved in these talks (between Thackeray and BJP). I sent him to meet Uddhav Saheb. He was told that we forget what happened and that it is time to be together. Even then, Uddhav Saheb said, ‘You (the BJP) remove Shinde and we are ready for an alliance,” Deepak Kesarkar told the PTI on Friday. However, Kesarkar added that the proposal was not acceptable to MLAs. “This was not acceptable to the BJP or the MLAs. Because it would have been inappropriate. The rest is history,” he stressed.
The Shiv Sena MLAs who had joined the Shinde had traveled from Surat in Gujarat to Guwahati of Assam and then to Goa. Their strength grew, eventually leading to the collapse of Uddhav Thackeray’s government.
Kesarkar also reportedly asked Uddhav to give his blessings to successor Shinde for “the BJP and Shiv Sena share similar ideologies.”
