UP: 1 Killed, Several Injured In Violent Clashes During Durga Idol Immersion, 30 Detained

UP

A 22-year-old man was killed, and several others were injured during clashes that broke out between two groups in a village in UP’s Bahraich over the playing of music during a Durga idol immersion procession on Sunday.

After the incident, tension gripped the area as people set several vehicles ablaze, prompting police to use force to control the situation. At least 30 people have been detained by the police in the matter.

CM Yogi Adityanath, reacting to the incident, said: “Those who spoiled the law and order situation in Bahraich’s Mahsi district will not be spared. Safety is guaranteed to all, but instructions have been given to identify the rioters and those whose negligence led to the incident and take strict action against them.”

“Immersion of idols will continue. Administration and police officials have been directed to be present on the spot and speak with religious organisations to ensure that the immersion of idols is done,” CM Aditynath added.
