“UP Ranked First In Dalit Atrocities Cases In 2021”: MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS

Out of the 28 states and 8 Union Territories only 5 states and 5 UT’s have not recorded a single case of Dalit atrocities  registered in the year 2021. 

In reply to a starrer question by Rajya Sabha MP and Congress minority affairs chairman Imran Pratapgarhi on the number of incidents of atrocities and attacks on Dalits in the country during the last four years and  the number of FIR cases filed and ended in conviction during the last four years, the ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday presented the data of the same.

“Police‟ and „Public Order‟ are State subjects under the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India. The responsibilities to maintain law and order, protection of life and property of the citizens including
investigation and prosecution of crime against citizens rest with the respective State Governments.” The reply read.

It further said, “The State Governments are competent to deal with such offences under the extant provisions of laws. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles and publishes statistical data on crimes in its publication Crime in India”.

Out of the 28 states and 8 Union Territories only 5 states and 5 UT’s have not recorded a single case of Dalit atrocities in the year 2021.

BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of Dalit atrocities in the year 2021  (13146). The Yogi Adiyanath ruled state recorded 11924 in the year 2018,  11829 in 2019 and  12714 in 2020.

Among the states recording 0 cases are Aruncahal Pradesh (BJP rulled), National people’s party led Meghalya, BJP lead Manipur. Mizo National Front lead Mizoram and  Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party lead Nagaland.

Interestingly, All these states are north-eastern states. Among the Union Territories are: Andaman and Nicobar island, Chandigarh. Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Ladakh.

Out of the 13,146 cases registered in Uttar Pradesh 1,930 cases have been convicted and  2,528 cases have completed the trial.

Meanwhile, The Uttar Pradesh Government on Tuesday which was DR Bhimrao Ambedkar’s death anniversary. announced to build a grand memorial in the name of the architect of the constitution,  while Bahujan Samajwadi chief and former CM of the state Mayawati claimed that the befitting tribute to Dr. Ambedkar would be when people who were deprived got their rights.
