Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, responded to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s recent alliance shift to the BJP, accusing Kumar of changing sides under pressure. Gandhi remarked during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, “We don’t require Nitish Kumar; a little pressure is exerted, and he makes a U-turn.” Gandhi attributed Kumar’s departure from the Mahagathbandhan alliance to the demand for a caste census in Bihar, which the BJP opposed.
Gandhi claimed that during discussions with Nitish Kumar, he insisted on conducting the caste survey in Bihar and pressed for its implementation along with the RJD. However, the BJP opposed the plan, leading Kumar to seek an exit strategy. Gandhi stated, “It is our alliance’s (INDIA bloc’s) responsibility to give you all social justice, and we don’t need Nitish ji for it.”

Nitish Kumar, now serving as Bihar’s Chief Minister for the ninth time, had cited an unsatisfactory political situation for his switch to the NDA. Rahul Gandhi countered this, asserting that Kumar succumbed to pressure, joking about him forgetting his shawl after the oath-taking ceremony and returning to the Raj Bhavan.
The Congress leader questioned the need for pressure, emphasizing that their alliance was focused on raising issues that matter to the people. Nitish Kumar recently took oath with BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha as his deputies. Rahul Gandhi’s comments reflect the tensions within the political landscape as alliances shift and leaders face scrutiny for their decisions.
