TMC leader and party’s Birbhum district president, Anubrata Mondal’s daughter Sukanya Mondal on Wednesday appeared before Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the multi-crore cattle smuggling scam in West Bengal.

New Delhi:  TMC leader and party’s Birbhum district president, Anubrata Mondal’s daughter Sukanya Mondal on Wednesday appeared before Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the multi-crore cattle smuggling scam in West Bengal.

Mondal reached the Enforcement Directorate headquarters here following a summon from the federal agency to face questioning. The move comes days after a special court of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi remanded Sehgal Hossain, a bodyguard of Anubrata Mondal to seven days of Enforcement Directorate custody in connection with the case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a parallel probe into the cattle-smuggling scam, has also questioned Mondal in the case.

The CBI has recently submitted a fresh charge sheet at a special court in Asansol in West Burdwan district in West Bengal, where the agency named TMC heavyweight Anubrata Mondal as the direct beneficiary of the cattle scam. The CBI has also underlined the details of the huge assets and property of Mondal and his family members in the charge sheet.

The CBI arrested Anubrata Mondal on August 11 in connection with the multi-crore West Bengal cattle smuggling scam. As per investigators, a chain of shell entities was used in the process of fund diversion.

The money reportedly transferred to the accounts of those entities who are at the rudimentary level of the chain, the officials said, adding, “The accused subsequently diverted a portion of the proceeds received to multiple tertiary shell entities”.

Sachin Pilot said observer KC Venugopal had said a decision on “the Rajasthan situation” will be taken soon

Udaipur: Congress leader Sachin Pilot speaking with media persons took a potshot over Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot. He said that Congress MLAs in Rajasthan who revolted against the party must be punished. In a bid for his taking over as CM he said, “It’s time now to end the climate of indecision in Rajasthan.”

Rajasthan is due to vote in 13 months. Sachin Pilot said observer KC Venugopal had said a decision on “the Rajasthan situation” will be taken soon.

He further added, “Congress is an old party with the same rules for everyone, no matter how senior. I’m sure the new president, Mallikarjun Kharge, will decide soon.”

Speaking with reporters he said observers took it seriously. He said, “The party has said it was indiscipline. Three MLAs got notices. There should now be action.”

Speaking with reporters he said, “As far as Raj is concerned, a CLP meet called on 25 Sept couldn’t be held. AICC considered it a matter of indiscipline… Rules same for all. So, if indiscipline occurred & replies were given, action should be taken. I believe party chief Kharge will take a decision soon.”

Taking a dig at Ashok Gehlot he said, “I find the heaps of praises by PM Modi (on CM Gehlot y’day) very interesting. PM had similarly praised GN Azad in Parliament. We saw what happened after that. It was an interesting development y’day. Shouldn’t be taken lightly…”

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Gehlot had shared a stage. They attended a programme at Mangarh Dham in Rajasthan’s Banswara. Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, “Ashok ji and I have worked together as chief ministers. He was the senior-most in our lot. He is still one of the senior-most chief ministers among those who are sitting on the stage right now.”

Pilot also noted that Gehlot had apologized to Sonia Gandhi, the party’s then-leader, for the resistance his supporters had shown to promoting him to the national stage.

Pilot and Gehlot are guilty for acting against the party line.
