โ€œWhile Kโ€™taka CM Is Aggressive, Shinde Is Silentโ€: Uddhav Thackerayโ€™s Jibe At Maha CM Over Border Dispute

Uddhav

Uddhav Thackeray said, โ€œUntil the Supreme Court decides on the matter, Belagavi, Karwar, and Nippani should be declared as a union territoryโ€

Mumbai: After Shiv Sena Leader Uddhav Thackerayโ€™s government collapsed in the state, for the first time Thackeray wrangled with the ruling coalition in the legislative council. His presence in the council coincides with the recent exchange of scathing remarks between the Maha Vikas Aghadi combineโ€™s leaders and the ruling coalition regarding the long-standing border dispute with Karnataka. The Maha Vikas Aghadi combineโ€™s leaders are the Congress, the NCP, and his party. At the council, he said that a separate union territory to be formed out of the contest territory.

Addressing the legislative council, Uddhav Thackeray stood firm and raised his voice over the issues being faced by Marathi-speaking people in Karnatakaโ€™s border area. He demanded to turn the area into union territory till the dispute is resolved.

He launched an attack on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. โ€œWhile Karnataka Chief Minister (Basavaraj Bommai) is aggressive on border row, Chief Minister Shinde is silent,โ€ he said.

โ€œUntil the Supreme Court decides on the matter, Belagavi, Karwar, and Nippani should be declared as a union territory. This should be added in the proposal that is to be passed in the assembly,โ€ he further said.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that in the assembly on December 27 a resolution on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute will be introduced. โ€œIn any situation, we wonโ€™t be leaving our people residing in border areas, alone. Weโ€™ll fight for every inch of land whether in the Supreme Court or otherwise. Weโ€™ll fight against injustice meted out to those living in border areas and we will bring proposals. Maharashtra wonโ€™t relent,โ€ he said, addressing the house.

Ahead of the assembly session, opposition leaders protested against the current ruling government. The state assembly has experienced commotion on the issue for the second week in a row. When the winter assembly sessions began last week in both Maharashtra and Karnataka, there was a significant march that took place close to the border. There were reports of several people being held amidst heavy security.

20 million people in China aged 16 to 24 out of jobs: Report

ANI
China

Beijing: Currently, in China, about 20 million people aged 16 to 24, are out of work in cities and towns, according to CNN calculations based on official statistics. The official data put the urban youth population at 107 million. The data does not include rural unemployment.
According to The Hongkong Post, โ€œThe youth unemployment rate in China has hit new highs this year, rising from 15.3 per cent in March to a record 18.2 per cent in April. It continued to climb for the next few months, reaching 19.9 per cent in July. The rate fell slightly to 18.7 per cent in August, but still remains among the highest ever, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed.โ€ About one out of five able Chinese are out of jobs due to severe unemployment which can be attributed to COVID. The country faces an economic down-spiral as top companies operating in China lay off their employees.
One of the worldโ€™s largest smartphone makers, Xiaomi, has also been laying off its employees.
Recently, a Xiaomi spokesperson told CNN that Xiaomi conducted a โ€œroutine personnel optimization and organizational streamliningโ€. He added that the measure affected less than 10 per cent of the companyโ€™s workforce.
โ€œChinese state media outlets have, however, reported that Xiaomi would cut thousands of jobs across multiple departments, including its smartphone and internet business units,โ€ according to The Hongkong Post.
According to financial documents, Xiaomi in the first nine months of 2022, reduced its workforce by nearly 1,900. The company by the end of September had around 35,000 full-time employees, most of whom were based in China.
This comes as the companyโ€™s revenues went down by over 10 per cent due to the adverse effects of Chinaโ€™s zero-COVID restrictions.

โ€œThe situation could become worse next year, as 11.6 million college graduates are expected to enter the job market, a fresh record, according to the education ministry last month,โ€ warned CNN.
โ€œThis is certainly Chinaโ€™s worst job crisis for young people in over four decades. Mass unemployment is a big challenge for the Communist Party,โ€ said Willy Lam, a senior fellow of the Jamestown Foundation in Washington D.C., as quoted by The Hongkong Post.
A recent The Star report said that as per projections released by the United Nations, Chinaโ€™s working-age population, defined as those aged between 15 and 64, will start declining rapidly in the 2030s and will shrink by more than 60 per cent to 378 million by the end of the century.
The countryโ€™s working-age population declined from 997 million in 2014 to 986 million in 2021.
