Actor Prakash Raj who has been vocal about his political views against the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party and PM Narendra Modi has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
According to reports, The Enforcement Directorate has summoned actor Prakash Raj to record his statement in connection with an alleged ₹100-crore Ponzi scheme case involving Tiruchi-based Pranav Jewellers.
Mr. Raj, who is the brand ambassador of the jewelry brand is yet to issue a statement. According to reports, The agency may seek information from him about the money paid to him by the firm.
On November 20, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the ED conducted searches to gather information about the Ponzi scheme run by certain accused persons in the name of Pranav Jewellers, which is a partnership firm.
Eventually, the ED recovered incriminating documents, ₹23.70 lahks of unexplained cash, and bullion/gold jewelry weighing 11.60 kg during the raid.
What exactly the case is?
Pranav Jewellers collected a total of ₹100 crore from investors in the name of a gold investment scheme with the promise of high returns. The firm eventually failed to return the amount to such investors.
The probe agency has claimed that Pranav Jewellers cheated the public by diverting the funds to shell entities or entry providers on the pretext of buying bullion or gold ornaments.
Although Prakash Raj has directly not made any comment. However, hours after the news of the summon he tweeted a cryptic tweet which said: Khela Hobe. Which is a political slogan, used by Mamata Banerjee’s TMC to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal.
