Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has once again sparked controversy. Kangana allegedly invited Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi to watch her film Emergency. The BJP MP from Mandi in her upcoming film has played the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film is based on the Emergency period in India.

According to reports, Kangana invited Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to watch her upcoming movie Emergency. The BJP MP recalled meeting Priyanka Gandhi in the Parliament. Kangana while talking to the media shared about her interaction with Priyanka. She also shared the extra care she took while portraying the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Kangana said: “I actually met Priyanka Gandhi ji in Parliament. The first thing I told her was, “Aapko Emergency dekhni chahiye (You should watch Emergency)”. She further said, “Priyanka was very gracious and responded, Yeah, maybe”. To which, Kangana said, ‘You will quite like it’.

The Actor turned politician further highlighted the ‘sensitivity and depth’ of her role in her film ‘Emergency’. The movie depicts the time when the Indira Gandhi government imposed an Emergency in India. Kangana said, “I believe it’s a very sensitive and sensible portrayal of one episode and one personality. I’ve taken great care to portray Mrs. Gandhi with dignity”, she said.

Kangana also opened up about the struggles she faced for the release of the movie. She said, “I had no idea that I would endure difficult times while making this film… usually, my films are made on a very comfortable budget, but this time, I faced a lot of struggles, be it related to studios or funds. The biggest struggle was that no one was confident about the film’s release. ‘Will it ever get released or not?’ This question was always there in our mind.”

In addition to the financial troubles, the film missed its original release date of September 6, 2024. This comes due to clearance issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Meanwhile, the film also faced backlash from certain Sikh organizations.

Amid the difficulties, Kangana expressed faith in the Indian Constitution and the Censor Board. She said, “We have a lot of faith in our constitution, country, and the censor board. It allows us today to make our film available to the audience. We are eagerly waiting to show the film to the world.”

The political drama is written, directed, and co-produced by Kangana. Emergency delves into the emergency imposed by the late PM for 21 months from 1975 to 1977 and its aftermath. The film features Kangana in the lead role as Indira Gandhi. The cast also includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik.

After months of struggles, the film has finally received approval from CBFC. The movie ‘Emergency’ is set to release in theatres on January 17, 2025. However, there has been no comment made by Congress MP Priyanka or the Gandhi Family on the matter.
