Dear Prime Minister,
Happy Republic Day.
There’s something which has been bothering me for last few months. So on this auspicious occasion, I felt, I must write to you.
We, the people of this country, stood by you in the last election. Let me be very clear, it’s not because we believed in every word that you said during the election campaigning but because we were fed up with The Congress and their corrupt ways. We wanted change.
I belong to the taxpaying, working class of India which is truly the minority in this country. But we do help in forming a national consensus and you can’t deny our importance. Maybe that’s why I dare to voice my opinion here. Because I believe it counts. I hope it counts.
There are a few things which are disturbing people like me since you have taken the charge of the office. While we are extremely happy with the way you have enthralled the crowds in other countries with your witty speeches and charisma, there are things at home which require your immediate attention.
I am talking about the Hindutva brigade, the fringe which was dormant for many years and have suddenly woken up from their slumber. Whether they call themselves Gou Rakshaks, Bajrang Dal, Karni Sena or Vishwa Hindus… their single point agenda seems to be forcible Hindu dominance over this county… and hatred for other communities.
This… and this alone will bring Congress back into the main fold, I assure you. Gujarat was the beginning of that process. The upcoming and inevitable elections in Maharashtra may give you some rude shocks, so be prepared. NCP is taking advantage of your rift with the Sena and unless you take care of these fringe elements, you will not be able to repeat your own score of 2014.
We want governance. We want incorruptible systems. We want progress. I do agree that your government is working on all these aspects, but one Dadri, one Una incident or a film like Padmavati is enough for your distractors to divert attention from what you have done to what you have failed to do so far. And I am sorry to say… but these fringe elements are giving ample ammunition to the opposition.
Dear Prime Minister, the time has come for you to make it clear that Hindu Rashtra is a dead idea. It’s just like putting a toothpaste back in the tube. The ‘Hindu Rashtra’ ended in 1191, on the day Prithviraj Chauhan made a tactical blunder and allowed Mohemmed Ghori to live. We can’t turn back the time, we need to move ahead. You have more than a year of your tenure left. Much was expected in three and half years. Hope you won’t disappoint us in the days to come.
One tax paying, law-abiding citizen.
