A day after ShivSena’s “intervention” request to RSS Chief , Devendra Fadnavis meets Mohan Bhagwat

Devendra Fadnavis had a private meeting with Bhagwat. He arrived at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur at around 9.25 pm and left after 90 minutes.

Nagpur: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the BJP’s ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Amidst the stand-off between the Shiv Sena and the BJP over power-sharing in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis flew to Nagpur on Tuesday night to meet RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Devendra Fadnavis had a private meeting with Bhagwat. He arrived at the RSS headquarters in the Mahal area in Nagpur at around 9.25 pm and left after 90 minutes.

In Nagpur, RSS functionaries remained tight-lipped about what transpired at the meeting, although it is being speculated it was about the political deadlock in the state after the October 21 Assembly elections.

CM Fadnavis arrived in Nagpur a day after meeting BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi.

The development came hours after Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil announced in Mumbai that a BJP-led government would be formed very soon, with Fadnavis as its leader.

On Tuesday Fadnavis held a meeting of BJP leaders at his official residence in Mumbai. Party sources have said the government in the state will be in place by November 9.

Nobody is ready for a climbdown. The Sena has asserted that though it accepted the BJP’s conditions in 2014, it would not “blink first” this time.

Over the weekend, a Sena leader wrote to Mohan Bhagwat, asking him to intervene and resolve the deadlock, since the BJP was not following “coalition dharma”. Kishore Tiwari, a farmers’ rights activist, even suggested that senior BJP leader and Union minister Nitin Gadkari, be made part of negotiations to resolve the crisis.

The BJP’s shrinking numbers in the assembly elections down from 122 to 105 has given an upper hand to detractors of the Chief Minister, party insiders say. It has also played into the hands of the Shiv Sena, which is unwilling to negotiate with Mr Fadnavis since his denial of a 50:50 power share agreement.

CM Fadnavis met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in the national capital yesterday after his meeting with BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
