Mumbai | The Aam Admi Party, today on Monday stated that it has “as of now” decided not to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state of Maharashtra.
The AAP will be contesting the elections from four states i.e., Goa, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, however it has called the shots to not fight the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, Preeti Sharma Menon, spokesperson of the Aam Admi Party’s national spokesperson said so on Monday.
She stated, “As of now, we are not contesting any seat in Maharashtra, but the party may take a view on a few seats if we feel it will help defeat the BJP”.
She further added, the party desires to save the democracy from the “clutches” of PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, the BJP president, so, “we will devote all our strength on the seats where we are certain we can defeat them,” she said.
Mayank Gandhi, former AAP leader, however, stated the decision depicts that the party is “dead” in Maharashtra, which holds 48 seats in the Lok Sabha, which stands to be the second highest after Uttar Pradesh which currently has 80 parliamentary constituencies.
He asserted, “Encouraging the worst kind of leadership at the behest of volunteers destroyed AAP’s ethos and soul. Only self-seeking people are left in the party now”.
