Amarinder Singh backs Priyanka Gandhi to be the next Congress chief too

Chandigarh | Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, agreeing with Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, has said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be a perfect choice for the top post in the party.

“Priyanka would be a perfect choice to take over the party reins but it would all depend on the Congress Working Committee, which alone is authorised to take a decision in the matter,” said Captain Amarinder.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi had announced his resignation two days after the massive defeat in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls, taking “moral responsibility”.

The Congress Working Committee, the highest decision-making body in Congress had time and again tried to convince Gandhi to take back his decision. But Rahul Gandhi failed to budge.

Soon later, a number of resignations followed, and bids for a “youthful leader” started coming forward.

The CWG hasn’t called another meeting to call upon a new leader.

“She has the intelligence and instinct to understand and relate to the needs of the nation, and also has the courage to take on any challenge and take the fight to victory,” he said

Shashi Tharoor recently opened up about cracks in the Congress and said the absence of a central leader was hurting the party. He said that Priyanka Gandhi had the natural charisma to play the lead role.

The Chief Minister said that he had earlier also endorsed for Priyanka Gandhi to become the new leader.

“Given Rahul Gandhi’s refusal to take back his resignation, Priyanka was a good bet to replace him as the new leader,” said Amarinder Singh.
