In a press conference held on Tuesday, Delhi CM Kejriwal also said that the conflicts between people can be resolved by a dialogue and not by the violence.
Delhi| Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal conducted a press conference on Tuesday. In the backdrop of emerging violence in Delhi, Kejriwal appealed the citizens to maintain calm. He urged that every resident of Delhi is part of one family and this violence would harm each one of them.
Mentioning the death of one head constable and 6 civilians, Kejriwal said that this could happen to anyone’s family member and thus, the violence should stop immediately. Mentioning the arson and destruction of houses, shops, and vehicles, Kejriwal stressed that the situation is not in good shape.
He also informed that he conducted a meeting with the MLAs, including those from the BJP, of the violence-affected areas. Senior officers from the concerned departments were also present.
“The outcome of the meeting”, Kejriwal said, “was to keep the hospitals on alert mode so that those who are injured can be treated on a priority basis. The fire department has also been intimated but they are having trouble to reach the spots. They have been told to coordinate with police to reach the affected areas.”
Kejriwal said that the MLAs had a common complaint that police are less in numbers. He also said that police do not have powers to take actions on the ground. Police do not have orders to lathi charge or open the fire in the air to disperse protestors. He said he’d be meeting Home Minister Amit Shah and convey the same message to him.
Kejriwal also mentioned that the MLAs from border areas of Delhi have told him that people are coming from the outside in large numbers. Kejriwal urged to seal the borders and demanded preventive arrests.
Kejriwal also said that he has directed all district magistrates and SDMs to carry a peace march with local police in affected areas.
He also said that an appeal for peace should be made from temples and mosques in affected areas.
