Assam NRC draft: Rajnath Singh assures no Indians will be left out from the final list

Rajnath Singh

New Delhi | Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday while speaking in Rajya Sabha on Assam’s National Register for Citizens (NRC) draft assured that no coercive action will be taken against anyone in any situation after 40 lakh people were left out from the 2nd updated draft on Monday.

“Whole procedure of NRC Assam was undertaken under the supervision of Supreme Court. I would like to repeat that its a draft and not final, everyone will get a chance to appeal. Its a totally fair process. Unwarranted accusations are unfortunate,” said Rajanth Singh.

Singh further added that those who are not included in the final list would be able to appeal to the foreigners’ tribunal. The Union Home Minister further appealed to the people to maintain peace till the final list is out.” Please maintain peace, harmony and public order. To aid this, we have provided the Assam government with all the required security forces,” said Singh.

Attacking the Congress party, Singh alleged that the procedure of NRC had started in 1985 through the Assam accord when the late Rajiv Gandhi ji was the PM. He further added that the decision to update the list was taken by Dr.Manmohan Singh ji in 2005.
