Battle for the post of MP Congress Chie takes Jyotiraditya Scindia to high command, but his wait is not over

Bhopal| The MP Congress leader who is jostling for the state unit chief’s Post – Jyotiraditya Scindia was scheduled to meet party president Sonia Gandhi today in New Delhi. However, the meeting has been postponed.

The development comes at the time when there are indications in Political circles that Scindia, 47, is eyeing the post of MPCC- a position that is held by Kamal Nath. Some of Scindia supporters in the Gwalior-Chambal region have taken to the streets, demanding their leaders to be appointed as MPCC chief. One of the supporters, Anand Agarwal even tried to immolate himself near Gwalior station last week, demanding the former Guna MP be given charge of the Congress in the state where the party is in power with a wafer-thin majority.

 

Scindia, who lost the race for Chief Ministership to Kamal Nath last year is scheduled will meet party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi. This comes barely three days after the CM called on her in the national capital in connection with the infighting in the state unit.

Gandhi in a bid to end the feud has referred the matter of forest Minister Umang Singhar who had launched a no holds barred attack on party veteran Digvijay Singh to the disciplinary committee. Singhar had called Digvijay Singh a Blackmailer accusing him of running a proxy government. The panel, headed by Senior leader and former Union Minister AK Anthony is likely to submit its report to Gandhi by next week.

The Congress chief’s move to refer the matter to the disciplinary Committee came after Nath called on her, on Saturday, a day after a general secretary in charge of MP Dipak Babaria handed over his charge.

Singhar, a tribal leader is believed to be close to the Scindia camp. However, Singh both 72, doesn’t want Scindia to become the MPCC Chief, the sources said.

Kamal Nath wants to see his loyalist as the MPCC president the sources said. Nath resigned from the MPCC President’s post after the congress’s debacle in the Lok Sabha polls but he has been asked to continue till his replacement is finalized.

“Our leader has more than two dozen MLAs including a minister in his camp,” a loyalist of Scindia said. “Scindia is a dedicated Congressman,” he added.
