There are speculations that Bhaichung left TMC following the fallout with Party leadership on Gorkhaland issue.
In a shocking move, the former Indian Football team captain and Rajya Sabha MP Bhaichung Bhutia resigned from Trinamool Congress party. He also resigned from his membership of Rajya Sabha.
Earlier on Monday, Bhaichung Bhutia from his official twitter handle tweeted that he has quit the Party. He tweeted, “As of today I have officially resigned from the membership and all the official and political posts of All India Trinamool Congress party.” He further added, “I am no longer a member or associated with any political party in India.”

Bhaichung Bhutia had joined the Trinamool Congress party in the year 2013. He even contested 2014 Lok Sabha election from Darjeeling. However, he was defeated by BJP candidate.
A few months back, Bhaichung had voiced support for Gorkhaland agitation that rocked Darjeeling. There are speculations that Bhaichung left the party following the fallout with Party leadership on Gorkhaland issue.
