Bihar special status: JD(U) delegations meets President Kovind

New Delhi | A Janta Dal (United) delegation on Monday met President Ramnath Kovind to discuss the special status for Bihar at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

A six-member delegation led by Ashok Chaudhary who met President Kovind told media that President reacted positively to the discussion. The delegation also invited President Kovind to visit Bihar.

Earlier Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had also put forth the demand for granting special status to his state. Kumar claimed that special status to Bihar was necessary since Bihar lagged behind on several key areas of human development like per capita income, education, health, electricity, institutional finance and others.

The supreme court today said that a larger group of judges would examine the constitutional validity of section 377 of the IPC, a law that criminalises sexual activities “against the law of nature” and re-considering over homosexuality in India. While the Congress has off lately been advocating for the striking down of Section 377, it is a matter of record that across the political and ideological spectrum politicians have refused to slice down the anti-LGBT law.
