BJP withdraws support from Mehbooba Mufti government in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar | The Bhartiya Janta Party on Tuesday withdrew its support to the Mehboba Mufti-led PDP-BJP government in Jammu & Kashmir.

Addressing the Press conference in Delhi, BJP leader Ram Madhav said, “We have taken a decision, it is untenable for BJP to continue in alliance with PDP in Jammu & Kashmir, hence we are withdrawing. The Bjp leader added that under Mufti’s leadership the freedom of Press in the valley was under threat.”

“Terrorism, violence and radicalisation have risen and fundamental rights of the citizens are under danger in the Valley,Despite support from the Central govt, PDP failed to control the situation. Shujaat Bhukhari’s killing is an example.” added Madhav.

Speaking on the formation of BJP-PDP government the BJP leader said that “Restoring peace in Kashmir and encouraging fast development in Jammu and Kashmir, these were the objectives that we joined with PDP.” “A lot has been done for the state’s development by the Modi government. It has done whatever was feasible,” he added.

The BJP spokesperson on the question of the governance in Kashmir said,”Keeping in mind the larger interest of India’s integrity and to bring the deteriorating situation in the state under control, it would be apt to hand over the governance to the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Accusing the Mufti government, Ram Madhav said, “Centre did everything for the Valley. We’ve tried to put a full-stop to the ceasefire violations by Pak. PDP has not been successful in fulfilling its promises. Our leaders have been facing a lot of difficulties from PDP in developmental works in Jammu & Ladakh.”

“Even if Governor rule is imposed in the Jammu & Kashmir, our efforts to fight terrorism will continue,” said Madhav while referring to the Army operation in Kashmir Valley.

In the 89 seat state assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP had 25 MLAs while the BJP had 25.
