Bhopal| Ending the two days long speculations the Congress finally declared Kamal Nath as the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister. However, there will not be a deputy Chief Minister in the Hindi Heartland state. The announcement came after party president Rahul Gandhi met both CM aspirants, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath at his residence in Delhi.
Following their meeting with Gandhi, both the leaders returned to Bhopal where a meeting of legislators was scheduled. While confident Kamal Nath greeted thhe party workers as he reached the party headquarters in Bhopal, Scindia was nowhere to be seen.
Earlier, in the day sources from the Congress party had said that party may handover the reins of Madhya Pradesh to Kamal Nath. The official announcement came after thorough deliberation by the Congress top leadership.
Kamal Nath, the state unit chief of Madhya Pradesh was sent to the state ahead of election campaigning to take over the charge. A close confidante of Gandhi family, Kamal Nath was once described by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as her third son. The MP from Chhindwara has now been elected as the leader of the ruling party in assembly. He is expected to take oath as the Chief Minister by Friday afternoon.
Congress won 114 seats in the Madhya Pradesh assembly becoming the single largest party. It will form government with the support of 2 BSP and 1 SP MLA.
