In another shocker after Rebel Sena MLA Eknath Shinde was declared as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, BJP National President JP Nadda said that the party’s central leadership want “Devendra Fadnavis to become the Deputy Chief Minister”. Fadnavis, who held the top post between 2014 and 2019, had said he will not be a part of the government led by Shinde, but support it from outside.
“…BJP’s central leadership has decided that Devendra Fadnavis should become a part of the Govt. So, made a personal request to him and Central leadership has said that Devendra Fadnvais should take charge as Deputy CM of Maharashtra..,” BJP chief JP Nadda was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
This came shortly after Devendra Fadnavis, in a presser this afternoon, announced that rebel SHiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde will become Chief Minister of Maharashtra instead of him.
The swearing-in will take place at 7:30 PM. Only Eknath Shinde will take oath today, Fadnavis said.
The cabinet expansion will take place in the near future.
Devendra Fadnavis further said he won’t be a part of the government but will support the government.
“In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, people voted for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance but that mandate was insulted and Maha Vikas Aghadi government was formed,” Said the former CM.
