Chennai| Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party President Chandrababu Naidu clarified that he is not the face of the opposition alliance on Friday. Putting to rest the speculations about Naidu being the leader of the opposition alliance in making, he said that so far there hasn’t been any decision about who will lead the alliance.

On Friday, Naidu met DMK President MK Stalin. Stalin is an opposition party leader in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Interestingly, he even lauded the Dravidian party leader saying he is better than Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Recently, Chandrababu Naidu met JD(S) patron HD Deve Gowda and his son Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy as a part of forging anti-BJP front. In the past, he has also met West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. This had led to speculations that Naidu may be the face of the alliance. However, he said “No, I am not the face of this alliance. You have to understand that. I am very clear I am not an aspirant, I am only a facilitator… I will bring everybody together. we will decide and take things forward.”

When asked about who would lead the alliance, he said there were so many leaders. Referring to MK Stalin, he said even the Tamil leader is better than PM Modi. “There are strong leaders… we will work that out and decide,” he said.

TDP, a former NDA ally and BJP’s ally in the central government pulled out of the coalition following a disagreement over special status to Andhra Pradesh. Since then, Chandrababu Naidu has been meeting opposition leaders. He even formed an alliance with Congress in Telangana to take on the incumbent TRS ahead of upcoming assembly elections.
