Congress CMs will try to convince adamant Rahul Gandhi today

Reportedly, Congress’ middle-rung leaders who have resigned felt that Rahul Gandhi was let down by the senior leaders and want to fix accountability.

New Delhi| For the first time after the party’s disappointing loss in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress President Rahul Gandhi will meet the party Chief Ministers from across the country. The CMs will try to convince Rahul Gandhi to not step down from his position. However, the Congress President has made it clear ample of times that he doesn’t want to be the president of the party.

The meeting comes amidst the mass resignation crisis that has rocked the party. So far nearly 200 people have resigned from their post in the party in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi. 35 office bearers of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee have submitted their resignation.

The Congress currently rules four states including Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Union Territory Puducherry. Whereas in Karnataka the party is running a coalition government with JDS. Congress’ performance remained dismal in these states except Punjab.

Rahul Gandhi had expressed disappointment that no leader from the party took the responsibility of the party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. A few days ago youth Congress workers met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi at his residence. While Rahul Gandhi refused to meet any senior leader of the party, he agreed to meet the youth congress leaders. While talking to them he expressed that no chief Minister, no state president and not even general secretaries took the responsibility of the defeat and quit their post. He said even after he offered to resign, no one else came forward in his support.

After Rahul Gandhi’s statement, party MP Vivek Tankha was the first to resign from the party post. He tweeted saying that party leaders should take collective responsibility of the poll debacle and should resign from party position. he called for giving Rahul Gandhi a free hand to choose his team. He also announced his resignation from the position of AICC chairman of the Department of Law, RTI and HR.

Since then, a common letter of resignation was being circulated on social media with the names and signatures of certain Congressmen. Reportedly, the party’s middle-rung leaders who have resigned felt that Rahul Gandhi was let down by the senior leaders and want to fix accountability. Some also feel that this will convince Rahul to continue as the president of the party.
