Administrative decisions should also be investigated – Fact-Finding Committee

  • Vice-Chancellor M Jagdeesh Kumar should be removed immediately. All appointments made since 27 January 2016 should be subjected to independent scrutiny.
  • All financial and administrative decisions taken during this period should also be examined.
  • A criminal investigation against the vice-chancellor should begin. Investigations should also be made against the teachers accompanying the conspiracy to attack the Sabarmati and Periyar hostels on 5 January.
  • The contract of the security company should be terminated immediately and it should also be investigated against.
  • An independent judicial inquiry should be conducted into the events of January 5 at JNU to find out how the violence started.
  • The responsibility of the Delhi Police Commissioner and other police officers should be fixed. Despite emergency calls from students and teachers on 5 January, the police failed to take action. Also, preliminary evidence shows that he helped criminal elements on campus.
  • The administration should immediately withdraw the fee hike in JNU. The student union should be recognized as an elected entity so that fees and other issues can be discussed between the students and the administration.

The violence took place on the night of 5 January (Sunday) during a protest against the fee hike in JNU. The masked men beat up the students and teachers brutally with sticks and iron rods. They created ruckus in the campus for two and a half hours. Delhi Police on Friday claimed to have identified nine students, including student union president Aishe Ghosh.
