New Delhi | Union Minister and BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman today reacting to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement endorsing PM Modi second term said that it could be a ploy by the Congress party.
In an interview to News Agency ANI, the Union Defence Minister said,” “I wouldn’t know why such statements are being made. Every time such statements are made and this is individually my perception and not my party’s or the government’s take. There have been many eminent leaders of the Congress who went there (Pakistan) to seek help to oust Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They went there saying ‘Modi hatane ke liye hamen madad karo’ (help us to oust Modi). I wonder whether this is also a part of the scheme of things which have been put by Congress. I don’t know what to make of this honestly.”
Imran Khan in a statement had said that Pakistan could have a better chance of peace talks with India if the BJP wins the general election. He further added that if the next Indian government were led by the opposition Congress party, it might be too scared to seek a settlement with Pakistan over Kashmir.
Speaking on the Army Veteran’s letter to the President over the politicisation of the armed forces, Sitharam said that the issue lost the credibility after the some of then denied the involvement in such kind of letter. She said, “It is well within every veteran’s prerogative to contact the Supreme Commander. But the problem is, especially when it is election time, all of us will have to be conscious we don’t give rise to questions of credibility and in the letter even if one individual says, ‘I haven’t signed it’, my worry is that credibility of the whole appeal is lost,” she said.
Responding to the question on why the International media is not willing to believe India’s explanation on Balakot Airstrike, Sitharaman said,” It’s for Pakistan to show that they’ve not been hit…they took nearly 40 days to take a group of defence attaches & some select group of journalists.”
