Cong’s Vishwajeet Kadam files nomination for Palus-Kadegaon bypoll

Mumbai: Congress leader Vishwajeet Kadam today filed his nomination for the bypoll to Palus-Kadegaon Assembly seat in Maharashtra’s Sangli district.

The bypoll, scheduled on May 28, has been necessitated because of the death of sitting Congress MLA and former minister Patangrao Kadam.

The Congress has now fielded his son Vishwajeet Kadam from the seat in the by-election. He had unsuccessfully contested from the Pune Lok Sabha seat in 2014 elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not yet announced its candidate for the bypoll. The counting of votes will be held on May 31.

Vishwajeet Kadam inherits a strong legacy of his father in the form of control over a Sangli-based cooperative sugar mill, several dairies, educational institutes and cooperative societies in the western Maharashtra district. The winner of the bypoll will hold the office for just over a year, as the term of the current Assembly ends in October 2019.
