Chitrapu Pushpita Laya is said to be the first transperson to contest an Assembly election from the Telugu states.
The 33-year-old BSP candidate, a resident of the Priyadarshini Colony in Ramannapet of Warangal, is contesting from the Warangal East constituency.
Busy with door-to-door campaigning in the constituency, Laya shared details about her life in Delhi, where she worked at a Contact Centre.
After completing her intermediate from a Warangal college, she went to Delhi. “I worked there at a call centre. I had to even beg at traffic signals to make ends meet,” said Laya.

The young neophyte into politics spoke about her ambitions, concerns with the constituency, and being the first person to enter politics from the transgender community.
The elections in Telangana will be held in a single phase on November 30, 2023. The counting of the votes will be done on December 3, 2023.
