Election 2019

I am deeply disappointed with the decision of not fielding Priyanka Gandhi: FM Arun Jaitley

New Delhi | Union Minister Arun Jaitley strongly criticised the Congress’ decision of fielding, not Priyanka Gandhi but Ajay Rai from Varanasi against PM Modi in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

He wrote a Facebook post titled “Refuge in Wayanad and a Refuge Away From Varanasi – The Story of a Family Dynasty”.

“The build-up of the last two weeks had been that Priyanka Gandhi would be fielded against the Prime Minister”, he wrote.

“She rejoiced in giving daily bytes to the media that she was ready to take on the Prime Minister. Her brother claimed that the Party was building up the suspense for an eventual thriller”.

But then he wrote that she “chickened out” of the contest.

He then further accused the Congress of not developing Amethi and Raebareli in UP and told them to compare it to what PM Modi did in Varanasi.

“Just repeating the same five sentences several times a day and not getting out of the obsession of ‘Hamara Parivaar’ does not impress ‘New India’ any more”, taking a dig at the Gandhi’s campaign speeches.

Arun Jaitley further slammed the family and called their actions “juvenile politics”, and said that they are living under an illusion that people will accept them no matter of their work, or “credentials”.

On Thursday, Congress declared that leader Ajay Rai will be contesting the polls against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, clearing out the suspicions that Priyanka Gandhi will take on the PM.
