UP government renames Mughalsarai railway station, Opposition takes a dig

Lucknow: The Yogi Aditynath led Uttar Pradesh government today in an official statement informed the governor about the renaming of the iconic Mughalsarai railway station to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction.

The Uttar Pradesh government in 2017 had proposed the Central government about reaming the railway station after BJP’s tallest icons in a bid to revive his legacy, Upadhyay was found dead in 1968 at this junction itself.

Various opposition leader had criticized Central government decision to give the nod to renaming the junction after Upadhyay. Few even alleged that this is an attempt by the BJP to change the map of the country.

Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi, “If you vote BJP, then names of cities and stations will change. If you vote AAP, then the future of your children will change.”

While taking a dig at the UP governments decision, senior lawyer Prashant Bhusan tweeted “Who says that the Yogi government isn’t working? Amidst all the heavy work done to provide oxygen to children at Gorakhpur Hospital, beating up people for Cows, & battering women thru Romeo squads, Yogi still got time to change the name of Mughalsarai Jn to Pandit Deendayal Jn!”

The fourth busiest railway station in the country located on the main Howrah-Delhi Grand Chord line, Mughal Sarai Junction was set up by the British in the 1800s as a key station linking New Delhi to Kolkata.
