Govt wakes up to Delhi Health Emergency, PM Modi to conduct a high-level meeting

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had urged the Center to take immediate steps to curb pollution and said that they did not want any politics on it.

 

New Delhi| Principal Secretary to Prime Minister PK Mishra and Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gaba have convened a high-level meeting on Sunday evening in view of the increased pollution in Delhi-NCR. The meeting will discuss the necessary steps to reduce pollution.

Apart from Delhi officials, representatives of Punjab and Haryana government will also be involved in the meeting through video conferencing. Earlier, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had urged the Center to take immediate steps to curb pollution and said that they did not want any politics on it. If the Center takes any initiative on this, they will support it.

The air quality index (AQI) in Delhi reached the 600 mark for the first time this season in the capital Delhi and NCR areas. Despite the heavy rains in Delhi on Sunday, the air quality has worsened. Visibility was quite low in most areas. Delhi airport issued a statement saying that bad weather and low visibility have affected the airlines. From 9 am till now, 37 flights from Terminal 3 to Jaipur, Amritsar and Lucknow have been diverted.

Meanwhile, all schools and colleges in Delhi-Noida have been ordered to close till November 5.
